Unconnected Clients
Updated over a week ago

While Keeper's bidirectional sync functionality relies upon our QuickBooks Online and Xero apps, you can still use Keeper as a task manager and Client Portal for your clients that are not on QuickBooks Online or Xero!

Clients in an unconnected status will still have their own closes, tasks, and Client Portals, and they will still be listed in your dashboard. However, without a connection to QuickBooks Online or Xero, you will not be able to run reports, edit transactions, or generate management reports.

Without a QuickBooks Online integration, you also will not be able to take advantage of the Keeper Receipts feature.

How to Add an Unconnected Client

To add an Unconnected Client, go to the top of the Client List dashboard,

  1. Select Add Client

  2. Choose Unconnected at the top of the pop-up

  3. Select Add Unconnected Client.

This can be helpful, especially for new client onboardings where you want to establish a client to manage in Keeper before you have access to their QuickBooks file!

Billing Note

Unconnected Clients do not count towards your total clients for billing purposes. I.E., you will not be charged for adding Unconnected Clients.

However, uninstalling Keeper from within QuickBooks will not convert a QuickBooks/Xero client into an Unconnected client. In other words, deleting Keeper inside QuickBooks will not remove that client from your billing.

This doesn't affect your billing in Keeper.

To manually remove a client from your billing, you have to delete them.

Converting Unconnected Clients to QuickBooks or Xero clients

Unconnected Clients can be converted to QuickBooks/Xero-integrated clients by clicking the Connect to QuickBooks/Xero button at the top of the Close page.

Searching for Unconnected Clients

Client Status Column

Adding a Client Status column to your Client List is a great way to see which clients are Connected, Archived, or Unconnected.

  • Add the Client Status column by selecting Add/Remove Columns, and enable Client Status

Once the Client Status column is enabled, it will show up to the right of all of your listed clients on the Client List. You'll see that QuickBooks and Xero-integrated clients will show up with their own identifiers and will show as Connected.

  • Go to Practice Settings

  • Select All client settings

  • Navigate to the Archived tab

  • Enable/Disable Show archived clients on the client list

Applying Special Filters

You can search your Client List to show three Types of clients: QuickBooks Online and Xero-integrated, and Unconnected clients.

To filter for all Unconnected clients:

  1. Select Apply Special Filters

  2. Choose Unconnected

This will filter your client list to show all clients that are currently not integrated with a QuickBooks Online or Xero file.
